An affectionate, dignified and noble breed. It
is neither quarrelsome with human companions nor with other dogs.
It is usually dependable and gentle with children. The folds of
loose skin on its face and neck create the famous mounful expression.
It has a very distinctive melodious voice, which cannot be ignored.
It is generally accepted that the Bloodhound, one
of the oldest breeds in the world and the ancestor of all hound
breeds in the British Isles, came to England about the time of the
Norman Conquest.
A hunting dog, the Bloodhound was more recently
used by the police and military for tracking criminals and poachers.
It has incredible tracking skills and has proved itself capable
of following a trail over 14 days old.
